There is a lot of talk about the future consequences of the global water crisis, but the short film, The Girl Who Couldn’t Cry – Water is Life puts the situation in a different light. It relates the untold story of a young girl born into the slums of India who cannot cry – why? Not because she didn't want to, but because she couldn't.
The voice of the child narrator is heart wrenching, as she tells the story of her life – when she was born, when her family needed her to work as a child, when she found out her mother was a prostitute, when she watched her brother die, and when she was finally forced into marrying an old man, still as a child. Throughout, she doesn't shed a single tear.
The video ends with a slap to the face, “Extreme dehydration prevents your body from producing tears, extreme dehydrations makes desperate situations worse.”
This video is powered by WATERisLIFE: Transforming communities through clean water.
Despite its touching message, the film has also garnered a lot of criticism for ignoring what is “important in the video” as some YouTube comments said.
