There’s the Niagara Falls and Amazon rainforest, then there’s the Taj Mahal and Great Wall of China: beauties made by two opposing forces, man and nature. But the beauty of these opposing forces coming head-to-head is in a league of its own. The silent beauty which substitutes places which once saw humans bustling about their busy lives can often be the loudest.

Underwater City – Shicheng, China
This is the Atlantis of China, and it is much more than just a legend. Shi Cheng was once a centre of politics and economics in eastern province of Zhejiang. Now, the maze of white temples, paves roads, and magnificent houses of the city lay forgotten under 130 feet of water.
In 1959, the Chinese government decided a new hydroelectric power station was required in the area, so they built the lake Qiandao in which the city is submerged.
Tourists are now trying to convert the haunting city into a tourist location for scuba divers.
Dadipark – Dadizel, Belgium
Dadipark was an amusement park in Belgium, located in the centre of Dadizele. The park saw a series of terrible accidents because of inadequate safety precautions, but after a boy lost his entire arm in the attraction Nautic Jet, the number of visitors declined drastically and was eventually closed.
Eastern State Penitentiary – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
This was an American prison in Philadelphia which housed notorious criminals such as William Sutton and Al Capone
Haunted Hotel del Salto, Colombia
The haunted Hotel del Salto in Colombia was once a luxury reserved for wealthy travelers visiting the Tequendama Falls area, offering a close up, breathtaking view of the waterfall.
The hotel is now thought to be haunte, by the ghosts of the slaves who jumped off the Salto Del Tequendama during the Spanish Conquest in South America. The caretaker also claims that the ghosts of those who lost their lives in bar fights on the balcony of the second storey (and lost more than just the fight) also haunt the building.
Pripyat, Ukraine
Pripyat is an abandoned city in northern Ukraine. The city which housed the workers in the Chernobyl Power Plant was abandoned after the accident and is now known as a ghost city. Nature has thrived in the city which is absent from all human and animal inhabitation.
Willard Asylum – Willard, New York
Willard Asylum for the Chronic Insane was built in 1859 and closed in 1995. More than half of the 50,000 patients who were housed in the asylum died within its walls – the asylums morgue is thought by some to be haunted by their ghosts.
Chateau Miranda – Celles, Belgium
The castle was built by French aristocrats fleeing the revolution. During the World War II it was used as an orphanage. Because of its past, which even includes housing German troops, the castle has an eerie aura and is a favoruite amongst ghost hunters.
