In recent times, the tomatoes have been imported from different states due to a shortage of stock in Hyderabad due to unseasonal rains.
Rythu Bazar is one of the food supply chains in Hyderabad where the farmers can sell their vegetables directly to the consumer instead of middle persons.
Farmers in Rythu Bazar are suffering losses with the broker-dealer who import the tomatoes from a different place and sell to the people. Farmers claim that those tomatoes are sprayed and coloured in order to attract the customers.
Farmers are questioning the government as to why they are seeking the import business when there is crop field of tomatoes in the state. The farmers also stated that the daily wages are going down and they are facing a huge loss due to the import business.
They claimed that Rythu Bazar is meant for farmers, not for the brokers. Farmers have sought the help of Rythu Bazar officials to take strict action on this issue. Further, they said that the public's health will be affected and so will the belief on the market.
