It was closely followed by Muzaffarnagar communal holocaust, which has earned a dubious distinction, as Army had to be called out nearly after two decades in Uttar Pradesh.

The SP has shown hesitancy on crackdown on people like BJP leader Sadhvi Prachi. These developments are bound to throw off balance the Muslim-Yadav (MY) votebase of Mulayam Singh Yadav, which has been his forte and helped SP’s return to power in the UP Assembly polls in 2012. SP Muslim face Azam Khan was himself upset and stayed away from the SP conclave.

Seizing the opportunity, the Congress is gearing itself up to strike at Mulayam Singh Yadav. Muslim groups and clergy are clamouring for the dismissal of the SP Government in UP. Not to lag behind, Minority Affairs Minister K Rahman Khan lost no time in taking the issue to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Rahman Khan expressed serious concern on the eruption of recent communal violence in Western Uttar Pradesh, particularly, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and other adjoining areas. The Prime Minister is understood to have assured Rahman Khan of all possible steps to provide full protection to the life and property of innocent people.
