Lucknow (Agencies): Mumbai Masters suffered a serious setback to their calculations in their backyard late Saturday night.
It was a severe dent to their calculations because the players succumbed after being in full control of the tie and lost it to Pune Pistons, which recorded its second straight win in the inaugural edition of Indian Badminton League (IBL).
Pune staged a remarkable recovery from being 0-2 down because of the stunning efforts of Vladimir Ivanov. The Russian won the singles against Saurabh Verma 21-16, 21-14 and then paired with Pranav Jerry Chopra for the crucial men doubles. Meanwhile, World No 2 Juliane Schenck put back an indifferent start to pull things back on track for Pune defeating Tine Baun in the women's singles 11-21, 21-10, 21-7.
Nyugen Tien Minh, coming from the setback to Sai Praneeth earlier, brought parity to the Pune score while scripting a facile 21-18, 21-13 victory over Marc Zwelbler. Fischer Nielsen Joachim and Ashwini Ponnappa won the decider for Pune while packing off Pranav Jerry Chopra and N Siki Reddy 21-20, 21-13.
