Ganguly did not meet Dalmiya for India coach job

Kolkata: Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday rubbished reports appearing in the media that he had had discussions with BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya with regard to applying for the post of coach of the Indian cricket team.

When media persons cornered him on this issue outside the venue of a function that he was attending, his first response was, "this is the first time I am hearing about it".

It was followed by, "I haven't spoken to anyone, didn't speak to Mr. Dalmiya, let's stick to that. Don't jump the gun, let's stick to that."

It was earlier reported that Ganguly the current joint secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had had an informal meeting with Dalmiya, in which he had expressed an interest to submit his candidature in front of the panel that is the process of selecting a new coach for the Indian cricket team in place of incumbent Duncan Fletcher.

It was reported that the discussions were fruitful and that the focus was on finding a way to improve India's performance away from home.

Apart from Ganguly, the name of another former Indian skipper, Rahul Dravid is reportedly doing the rounds for the job. It is also being speculated that the BCCI may continue with the present arrangement of having a Team Director and a couple of coaches to assist him in the discharge of his responsibilities. It is also being speculated that the players are in favour of Dravid becoming the next coach, though nothing has been confirmed on this as yet.
