London: American sprinter Justin Gatlin continued his brilliant run at Diamond League as he achieved his 23rd successive win after cruising to 100 metre race in 9.78 seconds in Monaco.

Gatlin, starting in lane number three, blasted out of the blocks and streaked ahead of the field reduced to seven after Trayvon Bromell was disqualified for a false start.

The American followed up his time of 9.75 in Lausanne with an equally impressive display ahead of next month's World Championships, the BBC reported.

Tyson Gay finished second after completing the race in 9.97. He was ahead of France's Jimmy Vicaut with Britain's Chijindu Ujah coming fourth in 10.08.

Earlier, Gatlin had snatched the track record set by rival Usain Bolt, after achieving the victory in the men's 100 meters in Rome Diamond League in June.
