It is amusing and distressing at the same time to see the front page headline in The Hans India on 14th November 2015 “Who’s you? British Airways Asks Sachin.” First of all, it is a non-issue. Why have we become so sensitive and intolerant? We continue to search for bogeys and ghosts where none exist.

Yes Sachin is a National Icon and he is a Bharat Ratna. But that does not mean that everyone in the world should RECOGNIZE HIM. In the British Airways case, most properly the query about his full name must have come from a BPO staffer operating from a country where cricket is not played. Asking for a full name is not a crime and there is no slight nor any ulterior motive.

I hope that the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, has better things to do rather than comment on a trivial matter. And Indian netizens of the world back off. Misdirected luggage and wait -listed tickets not getting confirmed is a part and parcel of air travel and Sachin aka Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, I am sure, is very much aware of this fact. Media need not so prominently highlight such trivial issues. There are many other issues that are in crying need to be highlighted and discussed by the fourth pillar of democracy (the Press).
