Hyderabad: World No 1 in 6-red snooker Pankaj Advani will lead the home challenge in the 300,000 pound sterling 3rd Indian Open World Ranking Snooker Championships to be held at Hyderabad International Convention Center (HICC) here from July 5 to 9. Captain PVK Mohan, President, Billiards and Snooker Federation of India said that a total of seven Indians will be competing in this championship.

Defending champion Michael White, last year World Champion Stuart Bingham, Current World No 4 Shaun Murphy and last year runner-up Ricky Walden besides several young cueists from China will be in the running as would be 16 players who have been given wild card, which seven from the host nation. The Indians in the fray, apart from Advani will be Aditya Mehta, Kamal Chawla, Dilip Kumar, Ishpreet Chadha, Manan Chandra and Lucky Vatnani.

“I hope this event will be even more successful than the other two editions that were held in Delhi and Mumbai,” Mohan said. The tournament will be played on a knock-out basis and all matches till the semifinals are to be best-of-seven frames and the final would be played over nine frames. State IT minister K T Rama Rao will inaugurate the tournament on July 4.
