Srikakulam: District Telaga Welfare Association leaders demanded that the Telagas, who are very much backward socially and economically, should be included in the BCs. They took out a huge procession from the local seven roads junction in the town to the Collectorate on Monday. A large number of Telagas from all over the district participated in the procession. Association president Suryanarayana Rao stated that the government did a lot of injustice by including the Telagas in the OC list, while they were in the BC until 1962. Thousands of Telagas were deprived of jobs and higher education because of lack of reservations, he deplored. In Odisha and Karnataka the Telagas were included in the BC list, he said. But in AP they are facing injustice, he said. The leaders said that they were unable to enjoy the rights meant for them in the Constitution. The government should respond and include them in the BC list. Otherwise the agitation would be intensified, they warned.
