Srikakulam: The temples of Arasavalli and Sri Kurmam in the district will become world famous from Ugadi Day as the Union Minister of State for IT and Communications Dr Killi Kruparani released commemorative postal stamps on those holy shrines.
Speaking at the Vijayanama Ugadi celebrations that were held at the local Ambedkar auditorium here on Thursday, the minister said that normally for the stamps to become effective it will take at least two more years. But with the cooperation of the postal department the staff achieved it in 70 days. It is a matter of pride for the district people that the district achieved fame on the international level on Ugadi day. Another stamp on Gurajada Apparao will be released soon, the minister said.
Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Prasad Rao also spoke on the occasion.
Kruparani assures postal stamp on Garimella
Srikakulam: "Efforts are being made to release a postal stamp in memory of freedom fighter Garimella Satyanarayana," said Union Minister of State for Communication and Information and Technology Killi Kruparani.
Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Killi Kruparani said that when P V Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister of the country, she had approached him several times and urged him to release a stamp on Garimella Satyanarayana. But, the request was not considered so far by the Union Government. She said she was taking a special interest in releasing the stamp and hoped that efforts would be materialised by next Ugadi festival.
The Union Minister also informed that the Union Government was planning to release a postal stamp on Gurajada Apparao, a social reformer, soon. State Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao was also present.
