Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday unveiled ambitious plan to attain the status of ‘power surplus State’ in three years from the present precarious situation. Speaking on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Assembly, KCR said the stumbling block to bridge the energy demand between demand and supply was coal scarcity and the installed capacity was below the requirement.
Making it clear that no private investments would be allowed in the generation of power, he said the government was planning to purchase 4000 Mega Watt (MW) of power from other states particularly from Chhattisgarh and increase the installed capacity of NTPC thermal projects to 4000 MW, besides setting up of new projects with an installed capacity of 6000 MW by the Telangana Generation Corporation Limited (TGENCO).
KCR said the power generation capacity from the present 6000 MW would be increased to 20,000 MW by the time his government completes three year term.
Saying the T state would continue to face power shortage for another one year as there was no alternative to tide over the energy crisis, the Chief minister said though the Telangana possessed abundant coal reserves in the Singareni Collieries, the state is unable to use the fossil fuel beyond the quota as the fields were being owned by Coal India, a central government organisation.
He said since the ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region) was coming up in Hyderabad, all the efforts are being made to provide power round the clock to the IT sector.
KCR also said that a new‘industrial policy ‘would be brought into force very soon inviting huge investments in manufacturing sector .
Announcing that Hyderabad would be promoted as a‘ slum free city,’ he said the brand image of Hyderabad would be reinforced by developing infrastructure including road network, drainage system and public trans-portation.
