Hyderabad: Cracking the whip against illegal constructions in Greater Hyderabad limits,Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday directed GHMC officials to take back encroached government lands. He ordered the authorities to take all steps to safeguard Gurukul Trust lands spread over 627 acres at Khanapur near the Hi-Tec city.

KCR chaired a review meeting with senior officials of various departments, including GHMC and police. He blamed the previous regime for turning a blind eye to several illegal constructions on the prime Gurukul Trust lands.

He questioned the authorities as to how power and water connections were sanctioned to such illegal constructions. The Chief Minister directed officials to get into action immediately and stop illegal activites as no advance notices were required to initiate action against illegal constructions. He, however, cautioned the officials on the need to give notices before taking action in cases where deviations from sanctioned building plans had happened. He asked the officials to deploy adequate special police personnel to enable the Municipal staff to take action against illegal constructions.

Meanwhile, the authorities told the Chief Minister that a case pertaining to 70 acres of Gurukul Trust land was pending in the High Court. KCR then directed the officials to take action in accordance with the court orders.

Deputy chief minister Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy, Excise Minister T Padma Rao, Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, DGP Anurag Sharma, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar and senior officials took part in the review meeting. Many illegal constructions had came up on Gurukul Trust and Ayyappa Society land in Madhapur.Meanwhile, several politicians, bureaucrats and film personalities besides hundreds of members of Ayyappa Housing Society had applied for regularisation. This was a major issue raked up by the TRS during the agitation for separate state to strengthen their argument that the T lands were illegally occupied by Seemandhra people.
