Kothagudem (Khammam): Despite tall claims by the Telangana State government to improve the facilities at the government hospital at Kothagudem, patients are being deprived of basic medical services at the government hospital here.

A pregnant woman, belonging to the Navbharat Colony, reportedly lost her baby as there was no gynaecologist available to perform an emergency caesarean on her. While another pregnant woman who got admitted to the hospital for delivery was asked to visit a private hospital as no doctor was available in the government hospital. This patient was asked to leave the government hospital eight hours after she got admitted.

She was shifted to a private hospital around midnight. Local people extended their support in shifting the pregnant woman to the private hospital. She gave birth to a baby at the private hospital.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao promised to turn the government hospital here into an ultra-modern hospital. Deputy Chief Minister and Medical and Health Minister T Rajaiah during his tour of the district said that the government hospital would be developed and facilities would be created on par with a corporate hospital.

However, the hospital superintendent brought some facts to light. The superintendent said the gynaecologist working in the government hospital had to shuttle daily between Bhadrachalam and Kothagudem. Hence they were unable to provide services to some patients.

The local people appeal to the State government to immediately sanction the required staff for the government hospital at Kothagudem and ensure that it provides better services to patients.
