Secunderabad MP writes to Union Power Minister to help resolve power crisis in Telangana

Hyderabad: Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday demanded Union Minister of Power Piyush Goyal to provide 500 MW of power from central power generating stations to meet immediate energy requirement for farming sector in the State.

In a letter to the Minister, party senior leader and Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreya said Telangana was reeling under severe power shortage leading to the increasing deaths of distressed farmers and also the closure of several small scale industries.

He urged Goyal to allocate 200 mw power from NTPC, Ramagundam from the unallocated quota. As the first phase, Krishnapatnam thermal power plant with 800 mw installed capacity was on trial, Dattatraya said and wanted the Centre to allocate 52 Per cent (450 mw) to Telangana on priority basis under the Power Purchase agreement (PPA).

The BJP leader also sought the intervention of the Union Minister to resolve the deadlock over the supply of 250 mw power from lower Sileru hydel project. Andhra Pradesh government stopped power supply to Telangana by scrapping all the PPAs entered in the erstwhile AP.

To resolve the power crisis in Telangana in the long run, he suggested the Centre to complete the proposed grid connection between Chattisgarh and Telangana on war-footing within one year as it was informed that laying of this new line would take at least 18 months.
