Warangal: Devotees thronged Lord Shiva temples across the district on Friday, marking the commencement of ‘Karthika Maasam’. Special prayers were offered in temples.
Special poojas were offered at the historic Sri Rudreshwara Swamy Thousand Pillar Temple in Hanamkonda and Sri Siddeshwara Swamy Temple in Warangal, Ramappa Temple at Palampet in Venkatapur mandal and others.
Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhaskar and Urban SP A Venkateswar Rao launched the ‘Karthika Maasam’ celebrations at the Thousand Pillar Temple. The MLA inaugurated ‘Kubhera pashupatarudra homam’ to be conducted for 30 days. Prayers started with ‘Suprabhata Seva’. Temple chief priest G Upendra Sharma offered ‘Rudrabhishekam’ for the well being of Chief Minister KCR.
Sharma said ‘Karthika masam’ had special significance for the Shiva devotees. Hence they perform spiritual rituals during the month. For the first time this year, ‘Rudra Homam’ will be performed daily in the temple for the well being of society.
Besides, ‘Mahanyasa purvaka rudrabhishekam’ and mass ‘rudrabhishakam’ will be held daily, while special rudrabhishekams will be held on Mondays. Marking the ‘Karthika Pournami’ on November 11, a ‘Laksha Deepotsavam’ will be held in Thousand Pillar Temple. Upendra Sharma said by performing ‘mass feeding’ and ‘godanam’ in the month one could derive special spiritual benefits. Vinay Bhaskar told the media that the Endowments department and Warangal Municipal Corporation were directed to make all arrangements in the temple for the convenience of devotees. The Telangana government was committed to provide all basic facilities to the public in the State. He accused the Opposition of starting a false campaign against the government within four months of its formation.
He said the UPA government had accorded statehood to Telangana with many conditions, yet the State government was striving to fulfill all election promises.
The SP said the police in Urban limits were directed to make elaborate security in all Shiva temples as large number of women would visit during the Karthika Maasam, Karthika Pournami and Nagula Chavithi.
