EFU regrets rape, In order to make the campus a more secure and safer place, entry of non-students and other outsiders is not allowed with immediate effect.

The Vice Chancellor convened a meeting of the various administrative Deans, Proctor, Provost, and other officials today at 11.30 a.m. and expressed her deep and sincere regret at the unfortunate incident of sexual assault that has taken place in the University late in the intervening night of 1-2 November, 2014. Since the case of sexual assault is a heinous crime against women, the police were immediately informed and the offenders taken into custody as per the provisions of law. The Universitry expresses its strong resolve to deal with such cases with a zero-tolerance approach and a firm hand, and necessary steps shall be taken to ensure that the campus environment is gender-safe, secure and friendly.

In order to make the campus a more secure and safer place, entry of non-students and other outsiders is not allowed with immediate effect. The practice of allowing girl students into boys' hostels is discontinued forthwith as is the rule position throughout the country in all Central Universities. The University has a Task Force on Gender Sensitization as well as an Internal Complaints Cell. Necessary steps with be taken on priority to increase awareness and sensitivity to gender issues.

The University also has a functioning Counselling centre for the last two years and this centre will specifically work to provide support and guidance for students against any form of discrimination.

The University reiterates its resolve in the strongest terms to take all steps necessary to ensure the safety, security and dignity of all its girl students.
