Khammam: “Officials should make an effort for positioning Khammam district in first place in Telangana state by implementing Haritha Haram programme effectively,” said Priyanka Varghese, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Priyanka Varghese along with District Collector Dr K Ilambarithi and Conservator of Forests Anand Mohan has held a review meeting with officials at Pragna conference hall at the Collectorate on ‘Telangana Ku Haritha Haram’.

Speaking on the occasion, she said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s vision is to increase tree cover in Telangana state. “Chief Minister’s aim is to see trees and colourful flowers on either side of highways giving pleasant experience while travelling,” she added. She said that this programme is not confined to single individual but it belongs to every person. “As part of Haritha Haram, 40 crore saplings would be raised and planted across the state,” she added.

The OSD said that 3.81 crore saplings should be planted in Khammam district after raising them in nurseries. She said planting of saplings should be speeded up through Forest Department, DRDA, DWMA, Horticulture and Sericulture Departments, ITC, Singareni Collieries and other private companies. She pointed out that planting of saplings should begin during June-July months of next year onwards.

“In order to achieve target of planting 3.81 crore saplings in the district, people’s representatives, government employees and other stakeholders should be motivated for making the programme successful,” she added. Priyanka Varghese made it clear that each department should complete its own target. “Efforts should be made to hand over works of nurseries to workers under MGNREGS,” she said.

District Collector Dr K Ilambarithi said that planting of one crore saplings would be handed over to Social Forestry Department. “Another one crore saplings would be given to ITC Paperboard at Bhadrachalam; 66 lakh saplings to DWMA and the remaining saplings to other Departments and private companies,” the Collector said.

Ilambarithi said that he was appointing Satish Kumar, who is DFO in Social Forestry Department, as nodal officer to give updated information to CMO. The DRDA Project Director Srinivas Naik, DWMA Project Director Jagath Kumar Reddy and other officials were present.
