Sircilla (Karimnagar): Power-loom weavers and workers staged a rasta roko here on Tuesday under the banner of various trade unions alleging that officials and merchants are not responding to the issue of increasing wages even though they sat on an indefinite strike for eight days.

Power-loom weavers and workers took out a massive rally in the town demanding hike in wages. Later, they staged a rasta roko at Ambedkar Chowrasta.

A trade union leader Dasaradham said that cloth industry in Sircilla is in crisis with power-loom weavers and workers going on an indefinite strike.

He came down heavily on officials and owners for not fulfilling justifiable demands of power-loom weavers and workers.

Dasaradham said that families of power-loom weavers and workers are facing difficulties with the indefinite strike. “Two workers belonging to a weaver family had committed suicide owing to financial difficulties because of the indefinite strike,” he added. He stated that there is a possibility of more workers committing suicide if the crisis continues.

He alleged that people’s representatives should take the responsibility if any worker commits suicide.

The Trade union leader said that officials and merchants should respond and resolve the demands of power-loom weavers and workers immediately. He stated that they would intensify protests if their demands were not resolved.
