Hyderabad: Stating that the agriculture sector would be given top priority in power supply, Telangana Energy Minister C Lakshma Reddy on Sunday said that power cuts would be imposed on domestic and industrial consumers once the use of power increased in the ensuing Rabi season. The minister told mediapersons here that despite the state was reeling under power crisis, the government was making all-out efforts to ensure regular power supply to crops in the season. Required power supply would be provided to all to ensure smooth irrigation of the lands.

The gap between power demand and supply would be widened in the next three months due to high demand from the agriculture sector and domestic purposes in summer, he said and added that the government was committed to supply seven-hour power supply to the farming sector.

Referring to the government’s proposal to hike power tariffs, the minister said as the issue was pending before Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao he would not comment on it. Lashing out at his political rival and BJP senior leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy for his decision to launch stir against the delay in the completion of the Kalwakurthi lift irrigation project, Reddy said Nagam, being a minister for 10 years had done nothing to his native Mahbubnagar district.

Stating that the works relating to the project have already begun, he said the CM would lay foundation stone for the Palamuru lift irrigation scheme shortly. KCR promised to pay special attention to the backward Mahbubnagar district for speedy completion of pending irrigation projects.
