Hyderabad: The Hyderabad District Collector K Nirmala on Friday threatened to shut down private schools which fail to get satisfactory results in the SSC-2015 examinations. In a meeting at Hyderabad Collectorate here with private school managements which secured less than 50 per cent pass percentage in SSC 2014, Nirmala said if schools continue to produce poor results they would be closed in the next academic year.

She expressed her astonishment over students failing in the languages and directed to the managements to anyalse the results of the previous examinations and hold special classes for students who were failing. The Hyderabad Collector flayed the school managements for pointing out trivial issues as the reasons for decline in the pass percentage.

She directed school managements to focus more on the individual assessment of the students and expressed her confidence that if single teacher assesses a student, the results would certainly improve. On the attendance issue, she directed managements to hold parents and teachers meetings to resolve the issue. Hyderabad District Education Officer Somi Reddy said 829 private schools were functioning in the district.

Of the total, 75 schools have secured less than 50 per cent pass percentage, He informed that Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan training in the private schools has been completed. Meanwhile, Telangana Private Recognised Schools Managements Association president Srinivas Reddy said move by the District Collectorate was not justified. “The same move should also be applicable to the government schools.

Moreover, there are various reasons for fall in the results like student’s standard, attendance and so forth. We will try to improve the results,” he added. The president of Balala Hakkula Sangham, Anuradha, strongly condemned the move by the Collector as it will have adverse affect on the children. “Already children are being made to study hard. Conducting special classes builds up stress and drives children to commit suicide,” she said. She further said officials should think scientifically before taking a move.
