The E-challan system of Telangana police has shocked an autorickshaw driver with 35 challans for traffic violations amounting to a fine of Rs.5000. The auto of driver Shaik Ahmed Hussain, a resident of Fateh Nagar in Old City was seized last Monday and he was asked to go toa Mee Seva centre and pay the fines pending since a year and half.


When he went to collect challans and pay the fines, the Auto driver was in a rude shock."The challans kept coming out of the printer, nearly 35 challans of them and one was for Rs 1,000 and the rest for Rs 135 each." He claimed that he was forced to borrow money to pay up the fines to get release his vehicle released.


Protesting autorickshaw drivers began climbing barricades near Charminar traffic police station even as they displayed the challans. They said that the police was unreasonable when it asked the owners of the autorickshaws to present themselves along with registration papers at the time of releasing the vehicles.


Commenting on the issue, a police spokesman said the new system does not lead to daily harassment but expects the auto owners to check their own violations once in a while and action is taken if the person has not responded over a long time.
