Hyderabad: Justice Reddy Kanta Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad on Tuesday suspended an order of the Central government that referred an issue of the Power Grid Corporation to the Industrial Tribunal. The judge made the interim order while admitting a writ petition filed by Power Grid Corporation questioning the reference made by the government on whether denial of chance to supervisors for promotion to executive category was legal and justified.

The public sector company moved the High Court contending that the members of the said Employees Association were supervisors and by definition were not workmen and therefore the authorities under the Trade Unions Act had no jurisdiction to deal with the dispute. The corporation pleaded that even after this was brought to the notice of the concerned official the authorities proceeded to mechanically refer the matter to adjudication by the Industrial Tribunal.
