DRIVE AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

Karimnagar: Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) Officer Parveen said that 427 cases were registered against those employing child labourers in the district and a penalty of Rs 10 lakh was imposed on the owners. The children below 18 years of age will be recognised as child labourers. Cases will be registered under JJ Act, against those employing child labourers.

Speaking at a meeting here, Parveen said that if anybody find orphan children, they can inform immediately to the nearest police station or to the ICPS office at district headquarters. They can even dial toll free number 1098 to give information. The child labourers were rampant in places where migrant workers exist, she pointed out.

Parveen said her department was taking the support of police department to eradicate child labour. She also said that if any child below 18 years of age is found working, the owner will be imposed a penalty of Rs 20,000 and can be sent to jail for a period of 6 months to one year. District Labour Officer Neelima, Assistant Labour Officer Venkateshwarlu, Circle Inspector Srinivas Rao and SIs Indrasena Reddy and Linga Reddy attended the meeting.
