Bhadrachalam (Khammam): Sri Rama Navami festivities got off to a traditional start with ‘Ankurarpanam’ at Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple at Bhadrachalam on Wednesday. The ritual began in the early hours with the temple priests amid Vedic chants and hymns bringing water from River Godavari to Beda Mandapam in a ceremonial procession.

Later, the priests performed Vishesha Snapanam to the processional deities of Lord Sri Rama, His consort Sita Devi and brother Lakshmana. The other rituals included Viswaksena Puja and Punyavachanam. The annual festivity that begins with the Ankurarpanam will witness a host of religious programmes ahead of Sri Sita Rama Tiru Kalyana Mahotsavam, the crux of the festivities, on March 28.

On the following day, Sri Rama Maha Pattabhishekam and Rathotsavam will be performed. The festivities will conclude with Pushpa Yagam on April 3. Meanwhile, the ritual of preparing Mutyala Talambralu will begin at the Chitrakuta Mandapam on Thursday with the crushing of turmeric. Besides this, the priests will perform Dolotsavam of the Lord.
