Congress feels it is being silenced by the ruling TRS

Hyderabad: The Opposition Congress in Telangana Assembly started feeling that the government was trying to bulldoze them and that the Chair was also not giving them adequate time to make their point even on important issues. The Congress leaders are unhappy over the manner in which the Ministers are making snide remarks and are indulging in running commentary when their members are speaking, according to party members.

On Tuesday, the Congress deputy leader in the Assembly Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka expressed his unhappiness over the Chair switching off their mikes frequently while not pulling up Ministers who indulged in running commentary. He said the House was not being run as per the rules and procedures. He demanded that the Chair direct the Minister to stop giving ‘running commentary’.

Responding to this, the Home Minister got up from his seat and said the TRS government was committed to SC and ST welfare but the Congress was trying to politicise the issue. The Minister again intervened when Vikramarka resumed his speech. Enraged over this, Vikramarka said he was giving respect to the Minister because of the latter’s age and threatened that he would expose the Minister. Vikramarka also questioned the Chair for giving opportunity to the Minister to speak without any rhyme or reason.

Intervening, the Minister for IT and Panchayat Raj KT Rama Rao called the Congress a ‘Pakistan team’. The Congress leader’s comment that the House was running against the rules set by the Rules Committee invited strong objection from the Minister. The IT Minister said casting aspersions on the Chair was condemnable and demanded that he should withdraw those words. “Congress is like a Pakistan cricket team where the captain has to manage all the 10 former captains in his team.” He further said that the Congress was always disturbed with indiscipline and internal bickering.
