The historic Charminar is facing an inadequate budget and lack of experts even though the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has begun conservation work.

On Monday, ASI superintending engineer R Krishnaiah stated that the restoration process is taking place and would likely continue until next year.

Major hurdle being faced is the lack of space for shifting material to the upper stories of the structure; also only one assistant archaeologist is present to handle over 137 individuals and other monuments.

Sources state that the lack of officials is being a hindrance for conducting surveys and excavations at various places to handle monuments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as these posts have been vacant for the past three years.
