Kagaznagar (Adilabad): Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) State general secretary M Sai Babu and leaders of other trade unions have expressed solidarity with the workers of Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM) who were on relay hunger strike for the past 104 days demanding that the management should clear the dues of five month wages. Management of SPM had stopped paper production seven months ago.

CITU leaders participated in relay hunger strike along with SPM workers here on Friday. Addressing the workers, CITU leader Sai Babu pointed out that the Telangana government is ready to give permission for new industrial units within 15 days. He flayed the State government for its failure to stop closure of existing units. Sai Babu said that the ITC Group had forwarded a proposal to the government expressing its interest in setting up a new paper industry in 1000 acres.

He requested the government to hand over SPM to ITC and ensure revival of paper mills and start production. Sai Babu also said that the CITU along with other trade unions would hold a ‘Maha Dharna’ on April 8 near Indira Park in Hyderabad. He gave a call to leaders and workers of trade unions to make the proposed ‘Maha Dharna’ a grand success.
