HC takes KCR govt to task over GHMC polls
The Telangana government has been taken to task by the High Court for the delay in holding elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The State government had to face the ire of the High Court on Thursday when it sought six months’ time for holding the elections to the GHMC. The State Advocate-General informed the court that the government had no objection in holding the elections.
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has been taken to task by the High Court for the delay in holding elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The State government had to face the ire of the High Court on Thursday when it sought six months’ time for holding the elections to the GHMC. The State Advocate-General informed the court that the government had no objection in holding the elections.

It only wants a little more time to complete the process of delimitation of the number of wards, he explained. Advocate-General K Ramakrishna Reddy told the High Court that it needed time till November to complete the process of delimitation of number of GHMC divisions from the present 150 to 200.
Not convinced with the government's contention, the High Court said if the State government was not able to conduct the elections, then it would ask the State Election Commission or the Central Election Commission to hold the polls. The High Court asked the government to file its counter and adjourned the next hearing to April 20.
