Hyderabad: The TRS is in an upbeat mood as it has succeeded in winning all the five seats it had contested for the MLC elections under the MLA quota. This win has come as a big political boost to the TRS on the eve of the first formation day celebrations of Telangana State.

Of the six seats that had gone to polls, the TRS had won five and Congress one. The biggest loser in the entire episode has been the TDP. The party candidate Vem Narender Reddy lost the seat. But the pattern of voting in TDP had given rise to several questions. Interestingly there were five invalid votes and one NOTA (None of the above) vote polled. What is causing concern for the TDP is about the invalid votes. It is trying to find out whose votes had become invalid and why.

The party suspects that the BC MLA R Krishnaiah, Serilingampally MLA A Gandhi, Cantonment MLA A Saianna and Rajendranagar MLA Prakash Goud are among those whose votes have been declared as invalid. The NOTA vote they suspect is that of BJP. According to sources the BJP MLAs had cast their first preference vote for TDP candidate and in second preference the pressed the NOTA button.

As far as the Congress is concerned it has managed to see that its lone candidate Akula Lalitha was elected as MLC. The Congress candidate also secured the highest of 18 votes to win the MLC elections. TRS candidates -- Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, R&B Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao, K Yadav Reddy, Nethi Vidyasagar and B Venkateshwarulu -- got 17 votes each to win the elections. According to sources, TDP-BJP combine candidate Vem Narender Reddy got just 9 votes.

Soon after the election results were officially announced, there was festive mood in the Assembly premises with TRS party workers bursting fire crackers. The MLAs lifted Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and congratulated him for successfully managing the entire polling process.

The victorious new MLCs Kadiam Srihari, Tummala Nageshwara Rao, B Venkateswarlu, Neti Vidyasagar Rao and K Yadav Reddy – all belonging to TRS hugged each other and thanked the MLAs for making them win the election. The Congress MLAs held a meeting in the CLP to congratulate the party nominee Akula Lalitha.

Though the ruling TRS had strength to win only four MLC seats, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao took the MLC polls as a prestige issue and fielded a fifth candidate and spared no efforts to win the fifth seat also. Reacting to the results, the T-TDP working president E Dayakar Rao said that TRS had won five seats by resorting to several irregularities.

An angry Rao said that KCR will go YSR’s way. He alleged that TRS had given tickets to all those who were anti-Telangana and joined hands with Jagan who was hardcore anti-Telangana leader.
