Hyderabad: The tapes purportedly containing the conversation between nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson and TDP president and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu went viral on Sunday night in which Naidu said, “Our people have briefed me. You can freely decide, would honour the commitment made by our people.”

Following this, AP Chief Minister held an emergency meeting with AP DGP and other officials. Later, media advisor to AP Government Parkala Prabhakar said that there was no truth in the conversation that was telecast by a few channels which was supposed to be between Naidu and Stephenson. All bits and pieces of what Naidu spoke at different places were put together and efforts were being made to defame him on the eve of Mahasankalpam, he said.

He said the AP government has taken serious view of the issue and will take all legal, constitutional and political measures to put an end to this conspiracy. He said five crore people of AP will not take it lying down. He said ACB had said that all records of evidence were submitted to the court, then how did these tapes come out. He said either the Telangana government should accept that they tapped the phone of AP CM or explain how they got the tapes.

The ACB said that they had submitted all evidence pertaining to Revanth’s case to the court. “If that was correct then how did they get this tape? Did the ACB not submitted the tapes to the court? This shows that the evidence was being tampered with. The very fact that the Telangana Home Minister said they have tapes indicates that there was political conspiracy,” he said.

While speculation was rife that ACB would issue notices to Naidu on Monday, Prabhakar said that so far no notice was issued and he does not think that the government has the guts to do so. The Telangana government, which held grand festivities and when AP was to hold Mahasankalpam on Monday to recall the problems it had faced post bifurcation, the TS government wants to push the people of AP into confusion and cause problems.

“Rumours were also spread that we are going to cancel the Monday programme. AP will conduct the Mahasankalpam with renewed vigour and there is no question of stopping it. The party cadre and people will participate in great numbers and will reiterate their determination,” he added. In the meantime, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao also called on Governor ESL Narsimhan and is understood to have discussed the latest developments.
