Warangal: Paramedical, contract and outsourcing employees serving at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Warangal have launched an indefinite strike on Monday. The staff under the banner of Telangana United Medical and Health Employees Union, affiliated to Centre of Indian Trade Union on June 11 served a strike notice to MGM Hospital management cautioning it that they would go to strike after June 15 in support of their demands.

The employees were demanding minimum wages, job security and provision of ESI and PF to the contract workers serving since 13 years at MGM Hospital. The striking employees have staged a demonstration at the hospital premises and raised slogans against the management of the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, the CITU city wing general secretary R Ramesh said that the Union leaders have submitted several representations to people’s representatives, district administration and the hospital management. But they failed to resolve the issue and as a result, they were forced to go on a strike, he lamented.

The workers should be paid minimum wages as per the GO No. 3 and outsourcing employees should be recruited as per the provisions of GO No. 103, Ramesh demanded. He alleged that the hospital management has handed over the responsibility of monitoring Arogya Sri cases to an outsourcing agency called Snark Technologies of Vijayawada.

The agency was not included in the empanelled list prepared by a five-member committee of district officials headed by District Collector, he said. A probe should be ordered into the matter and the contract given to Snark Technologies should be cancelled, the CITU leader demanded.

Meanwhile, discussions by a delegation of the Union with the hospital superintendent Dr K Manohar failed to yield any result. Union leaders Mohammad Sardar, Santhosh, Mohammad Ansari, G Vijay Kumar, Madhava Reddy and others were present.
