Hyderabad: The Union Ministry for Forests and Environment has given environmental clearance to the seventh stage with 800 MW capacity at Kothagudem Thermal Power Station in Khammam district.

The officials of Energy Department said the clearances given by the Ministry would help the Genco speed up the process of construction, which was kept pending for last four months. State government already allocated Rs 300 crore for the project . The Genco also entered agreement with Singareni Collieries Limited for the supply of 40 lakh tonnes of coal every year.

The Ministry gave its approval to the seventh stage on the condition that the ash being emitted by the plant should be treated to ensure that there is no impact on environment. The State Pollution Control Board has been assigned the responsibility to conduct inspection every six month.

The seventh stage project at Kothagudeam Thermal Power Station (KTPS) will help meet the increasing power demand in the State, according to officials. The project is scheduled to be commissioned by 2017. Land acquisition for the project has already taken up.
