The Congress party’s farmers wing ‘Kisan Keth Mazdoor Congress’ (KKMC) Nizamabad district wing on Wednesday organised an agitation at the District Congress Committee Office and gave memorandum to Additional Joint Collector against the State government’s anti peasant policies.

Working president M Bhatti Vikramarka, Kisan Keth Mazdoor Congress State president Kodanda Reddy, MLC Aakula Lalitha, former Major Irrigation Minister P Sudershan Reddy, former Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy, former MLAs Eeravatri Anil, Aruna Thara and various assembly constituency conveners along with party activists participated in the meeting.

Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that the Congress party designed the Pranahita-Chevella Project to supply sowing and drinking water to six Telangana districts, but now the ruling TRS government changed the design and launched the new scheme ‘Jalaharam’ for drinking water supply.

Bhatti said there was no requirement for Jalaharam project because the ‘Pranahita-Chevella’ fulfills the drinking water needs. He further said that KCR changed the Pranahita-Chevella design and launched the Jalaharam project to benefit his son KTR and Jalaharam Pipes Supplying Companies.

Vikramarka said that nearly 11 hundred farmers committed suicide in Telangana State because of the State government’s anti-farmer policies. The government announced that they waived off crop loans worth Rs 1 lakh to each and every farmer, but release only 25 per cent amount to bankers. As a result, bankers refused to issue new loans and farmers are borrowing money from moneylenders at 36 per cent interest rate, Bhatti explained.

Kisan Keth Mazdoor Congress State president Kodanda Reddy said the district wing started the movement from Nizamabad district on various farmers’ problems like crop loan waiving off, crop insurance and input subsidies release. He alleged the TRS government’ anti-farmer polices for the suicides of nearly 11 hundred farmers in Telangana State for the past one year.

Later, the Congress leaders took out a rally from Congress party office to district collectorate and submitted a memorandum to the Additional Joint Collector Rajaram on farmers’ suicide and loan waive issue.
