Hyderabad: The State government will establish a toll free number to enable citizens to report on tax evaders. Whistle-blowers will be rewarded with Rs 50,000 each. The Cabinet Sub-Committee meeting on Commercial Taxes policy was held at Secretariat here on Friday.

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, Minister for Major Irrigation T Harish Rao, Minister for Forests Jogu Ramanna, Revenue Principal Secretary Ajay Mishra, and Commercial Taxes Commissioner Anil Kumar took part in the meeting; Srinivas Yadav presided over the meeting.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Srinivas Yadav said the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had given the go-ahead for utilising the services of the police to strengthen the enforcement wing of the Commercial Taxes.

Two platoons of the police would be provided to be at the service of the Enforcement Wing. The Chief Minister also directed Committee members to visit other states to study functioning of the Commercial Taxes Departments there and deploying the knowledge to strengthen the department in the State.

He said the Cabinet Sub-Committee would again meet within 15 days to discuss amendments to Commercial Taxes Act, if necessary. The meeting would also review the pending issues in Legal, Financial Departments relating to Commercial Taxes Department, the Minister said.

He appealed to the businessmen to pay taxes sincerely and contribute their mite in making the Telangana State “Bangaru Telangana.” The Minister said the Commercial Taxes Commissioner was striving to increase the tax revenue without troubling business people.

Srinivas Yadav said the Commercial Taxes Department would work in coordination with other departments to increase the tax revenue in the State. He said the Department would deploy technology to curb tax evasion and tribunals would be established to speed up disposal of cases.
