Cops asked to stop sale of cows

Hyderabad: In view of Bakrid and Ganesh festivities falling on September 24 and 25, and immersion on September 27, Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand on Thursday called a coordination meeting with Muslim and Hindu elders from all police stations.
The CP informed that Director General of Police has instructed all SPs in the districts to prevent sale of cows and calves at shandies and also to start interstate and inter-district border check-posts to stop transportation of the cattle.
He further added that in Cyberabad, 21 check-posts have been opened at important junctions and highways which would be headed by an SI and men in three shifts round-the-clock till Bakrid.
Besides, each zone would have a cattle pond to shift the seized cattle. The Animal Husbandry Department, represented by Dr Varaprasad, Regional Joint Director and Venkateswar Reddy, Chief Veterinary Officer, assured the gathering that veterinary doctors would be available round-the-clock to certify the cattle as per the laws in force.
The cattle ponds would be maintained with grass, water, ramps and so on by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The police commissioner advised Muslims to follow the laws of the land and not hurt sentiments. In a separate meeting with the Hindu elders, Anand cautioned them not to do policing on the roads and stop vehicles.
But, they could be in constant touch with the local police and inform them. The Cyberabad WhtasApp no: 9490617444 was given to them to send pictures or messages. Over 150 Hindu and 250 Muslim elders attended the meeting.
