Hyderabad: The public would have to face unbearable traffic jams and diversions for two days in Hyderabad as the Ganesh idols immersion in Hussain Sagar would continue on September 27 and 28.

Over 12,000 Ganesh idols would be immersed this year, the police said adding that they appealed to the public to immerse the idols installed at street level at the earliest to lessen the inconvenience and avoid traffic hindrances.

City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said that a total of over 30,000 idols would be immersed in Hussain Sagar during the festive days of Ganesh Chaturthi.

He said that the idols installed in the neighbouring districts like Medak, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda would be immersed in Hussain Sagar. At his office in Basheerbagh on Wednesday, the Commissioner briefed about the security measures being adopted during the festive days and Bakrid along with the Assembly sessions in Hyderabad.

He said that as many as 20,000 police personnel would be deployed as bandobust during the 11 days of Ganesh festival and the same forces would also be deployed for the Assembly sessions and Bakrid festival that fall on September 23 and 25 respectively.

“Along with the 20,000 police personnel from Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana, additional forces from Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are being drawn for bandobust. Over 400 CC cameras will be installed in the main procession route from Balanagar to Tank Bund.

As many as nine para-military battalions, 30 bomb disposal teams, 30 dog squads will guard the city,” the commissioner said adding that, the 120 patrolling vehicles, 17 interceptor vehicles would function as usual.

In order to curb pick pocketing and eve-teasing, special crime teams and SHE teams would be deployed on the procession day. Adequate measures were also being taken to avoid traffic hindrances. Traffic diversions would be imposed during the days of immersion, the officer said.
