After the ‘who blinks first’ game in announcing their candidates for the Warangal byelection Lok Sabha seat, TRS and Congress have on Sunday unleashed a hectic political activity across the constituency.

While the Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad is busy chalking out a winning strategy for the Congress, the TRS ministers deputed for each Assembly segment of the Lok Sabha constituency. Surprisingly, with just a couple of days left for the last date of the nominations, the NDA allies-Telugu Desam-BJP–have been still groping in the dark for a candidate to clinch the seat.

The Congress which waited for TRS to announce its candidate didn’t spring any surprise and kept its faith on former MP Siricilla Rajaiah, who was trounced by Kadiyam Srihari with a margin of about 3.92 lakh votes in 2014 election. Though former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana reportedly tried tooth and nail for the ticket, the Congress settled to field Rajaiah with the backing of former MP G Vivek who refused to contest from the seat. According to sources, the party top brass which met in Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday, decided to have another round of talks with the constituency leaders on Monday to draw a strategy.

It’s also learnt that TPCC would announce a panel consisting of five to six leaders to camp in Warangal till polling date, scheduled for November 21. After the high drama that preceded TRS’ announcement of Pasunuri Dayakar’s candidature, the party on Sunday went into a segment- wise huddle each headed by a Minister.

The ministers-Eatala Rajender, T Harish Rao, K Taraka Rama Rao, G Jagadishwar Reddy, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, A Indra Karan Reddy and Jogu Ramanna, who were in-charge of Parkal, Warangal East, Warangal West, Palakurthi, Bhupalpally, Station Ghanpur and Wardhannapet Assembly segments respectively conducted constituencywise meetings. On the other hand, the BJP was still in search of a candidate.

Although the name of NRI P Devaiah was doing rounds for the last few weeks, the BJP leadership appeared cramped over the choices it has.

Former minister A Chandrasekhar of Vikarabad and a former TRS leader Chinta Swamy who launched a tirade against KCR were also in the race for BJP ticket according to sources. Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam leaders of the district were still hopeful that BJP may leave the seat to them.

“We have the cadres and the leaders from the grass-root level, besides a considerable sway in at least three Assembly constituencies– Palakurthi, Parkal and Bhupalpally,” a senior TDP leader told The Hans India on the condition of anonymity, pointing to the hapless position of the BJP that failed to pitchfork a candidate so far. Former Warangal Mayor and senior BJP leader T Rajeshwar Rao expressed confidence thatdelay in announcing candidatewouldn’t hurt the party.
