On the occasion of All India Protest Day, a massive dharna was held in front of Rail Nilayam at Secunderabad between on Thursday.

Hyderabad: On the occasion of All India Protest Day, a massive dharna was held in front of Rail Nilayam at Secunderabad between on Thursday. Members of South Central Railway Employees Sangh (SCRES) & South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU) took part in the dharna. According to rough estimates, around 10,000 railway employees took part in the dharna.

Under the banner of National Joint Council of Action (NJCA), Defence, Postal and other Central government employees held dharnas before their respective offices in various cities of AP, Telangana and divisional offices of SCR.

The major demands of railway men included immediate submission of 7th pay commission report, resolving all anomalies of 6th CPC, scrapping of new pension scheme and restoration of old pension scheme. Agitators raised slogans against Foreign Direct Investments/Public Private Partnership in Railways.

Prabhakar Andrew, chairman, JCA and president, SCRES, Ch Sankara Rao, convener, JCA and general secretary, SCRMU criticised the Centre and Railway Board threating that employees would go on indefinite strike in February, 2016. The NJCA is further planning to present a 36-point charter of demands submitted to the Centre soon.
