Sangareddy: With scanty rainfall this year resulting in the depleting of ground water level and drying up of Singur and Manjeera reservoirs, severe water crisis are haunting the Medak district. While there is only 1 tmcft water available in Singur reservoir, the water level of Manjira reservoir has fallen to dead storage level.

With this, Narayankhed, Sangareddy, Zaheerabad, Patancheru and Narsapur constituencies are reeling under severe water crisis. Apart from it, situation in Dubbak, Andole and Medak constituencies, the problem has only turned worse. In all, as many as 1,939 villages are facing water shortage, out of which the situation in 457 villages is very bad.

As the Rural Water Supply (RWS) Department has failed to address the problem adequately, villagers are forced to trek miles to fetch water from farm borewells. Though RWS has asked for the sanction of Rs 28 crore under CRF and non-CRF funding, the government has not yet released the funds. The RWS is left with just Rs 1 crore from the last year’s unspent fund.

The water crisis has become severe in Sangareddy municipal area as the supply has been stopped for the last few days. However, water supply to the industries remains uninterrupted. Moreover, 96 million gallons of water is being released to Hyderabad and Secunderabad every day from Singur.

In Patancheru, Jinnaram and Ramchandrapuram Mandals, Manjeera water is being released once in three days.

The water problem is much more severe in Narayankhed area. Goudgam Janvada. Manjera River from Goudgam Janvada to Raipally, the 40 kilometres stretch, has completely dried up. More than 150 villages in the constituency are facing severe water shortage. All the water schemes in the area have also become defunct.

The situation in Gajwel is not any different. The municipality, along with Pragnapur, Mutrajpallyand Kyasaram villages need 3.79 MLD (million litres per day). Currently, through overhead tanks 1.72 LMD is being supplied. Another 0.1 MLD is being supplied through Manjira drinking water project. The situation is similar in Narsapur, Medak and elsewhere.
