Varni: Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that the Telangana State government would start the modernisation works of the Nizamsagar and Sri Ram Sagar Project canals in the district with Rs 4,050 crores to supply sowing water to the district.

He participated in a number of inauguration works and laid foundation stones to roads, bridges, gram panchayat buildings and OHSR tanks worth four crore rupees at Varni mandal in Banswada assembly constituency on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said, “Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao wishes to start the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme which would provide sowing water to lakhs of acres in Telangana region.

” Through the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme, the government would divert the Godavari waters to Nizamsagar and SRSP projects and provide irrigation water to two crops in the district, the Minister said.

Pocharam Srinivas said that in Nizamabad district, the modernisation works of Nizamsagar canals were already in progress. In Banswada constituency, nearly Rs 85 crores were spent on canals modernisation works and another Rs 40 crores were required for completing the remaining works, he said.

The Minister further said that the Telangana State government estimated that Rs 4050 crores was required to complete the canals modernisation works in the district.
