A police constable from Warangal district, Manubothula Jitendar, was bestowed with Dr BR Ambedkar National Award by Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi (BDSA) for his outstanding contribution in the field of social service.

Warangal: A police constable from Warangal district, Manubothula Jitendar, was bestowed with ‘Dr BR Ambedkar National Award’ by Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi (BDSA) for his outstanding contribution in the field of social service.

The award was conferred on him by the Dalit Sahitya Akademi national president, S P Sumanakshar at the 31st National Conference of Dalit Writers held in New Delhi recently. Jitender was the only person from Telangana to receive the honour.

Jitender, the president of BDSA district unit, has received Dr BR Ambedkar Fellowship in 2014 from the Akademi. In 2015 he was honoured with presented ‘Best Constable Award’ for his valuable service to the department.

Setting aside time and resources for social service activities, he developed a badminton court and provided sports gear to local youth at Babu Camp Colony in Kazipet where he resides. He also set up ‘Ambedkar Vignana Kendra’ at his residence where books on competitive exams and general subjects were made available.

Expressing pleasure over receiving the award, Jitender thanked Akademi national president Sumanakshar for selecting him for the award. ‘The award has boosted my zeal to serve the underprivileged sections,’ he told The Hans India on Monday.
