Hyderabad: As many as 13 Telecom companies are in the dock of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for evading property tax to the tune of Rs 8 crore during 2014-15 and 2015-16. The companies are having 5,432 cell towers in the city, but failed to pay property tax for them.

According to GHMC records, the Telecom companies did not pay the tax despite repeated reminders. The Bharati Airtel evaded about Rs 0.54 lakh during the two financial years, BSNL-HTD Rs 60.6 lakh, Chennai Network Infrastructure Limited Rs 29.88 lakh, GTL Infra Limited Rs 21.66 lakh, Idea Cellular Limited Rs 4.46 lakh, Indus Towers Ltd Rs 141.56 lakh, Reliance Communications Limited Rs 178.46 lakh, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited Rs 185.72 lakh, Sauravva Towers Private Limited Rs 0.08 lakh,

Tower Vision Rs 12.14 lakh, Viom Networks Rs 125.5 lakh, Vodafone South Ltd Rs 0.16 lakh and ATC 188 Rs 0.13 lakh. The 13 Telecom companies have evaded as much as Rs 7.69 crore until today. Of them, Indus Towers Ltd paid Rs 80 lakh last week. The GHMC officials, when contacted, said they are planning to take stringent action against defaulting companies.
