Khammam: The year 2015 was full of bitter experiences for the Opposition parties while the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has become a threat to other parties in the ensuing Corporation elections with its Operation Akarsh becoming a success. The various political parties in the district had witnesses many ups and downs in 2015.

The Congress, which had celebrated its 131st formation day recently, is trying hard to regain its past glory in the district. It lost one of its MLA out of the four, who won the 2014 elections.

Even though the Congress ruled for ten years and fulfilled the long-pending dream of Telangana people of separate statehood, but failed to win their hearts.

The occasional efforts of TPCC working president and Madhira MLA Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Palair MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and also the former MP Renuka Chowdary to fill the cadre with energy couldn’t prevent the party leaders from getting attracted to massive Operation Akarsh programme of the ruling TRS.

The Left parties - CPI, CPM and CPI-ML (ND) – who have been with the people from the beginning, fought on many public issues and successful in solving some of them. But these parties failed to create a perfect vote bank in the district. Among these three, CPM became successful in creating some faith among the public.

The Telugu Desam Party, which has a strong cadre in the district, became the biggest party in the district by winning more than 300 seats in the local body elections. But it had received a major blow from Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao as he left the party and joined the ruling TRS. Many others followed him. Moreover the note-for-vote case on Sandra Venkata Veeraiah reportedly further weakened the party.

The YSR Congress Party reportedly is trying hard to retain its space in the district by keeping friendly internal relations with the ruling TRS. Even though it won three MLA seats in 2014 Assembly elections, but it had lost two to the TRS. The district people couldn’t feel the presence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as there were no visits of party leaders in the district except that of Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya as part of Maha Sampark Campaign and state president Kishan Reddy participating in the rally regarding farmer suicides. The party is still struggling hard to win the faith of the people, which is suffering with lack of coordination among the leaders and activists, throwing all the efforts of district president K Sridhar Reddy going ashtray.

Whereas the TRS party with its various developmental activities and welfare schemes emerged as the major party in the district. Many leaders of the Opposition parties were attracted by its super successful strategy of Operation Akarsh. The grand victory of the TRS in the MLC elections proved that there is no stop for the party in the district.

The vast political experience of Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao and his master brain in winning the faith of the people including various people’s representatives of the opposition parties made the TRS very strong in the district. With the winning spirit of MLC elections, the ruling party is gearing up to win the coming up Municipal Corporation elections too.
