The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) was established by the Government of Andhra Pradesh (AP) as a sensitive support structure to facilitate poverty reduction through social mobilization and improvement of Livelihoods of rural poor in Andhra Pradesh.

As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, SERP is divided into AP SERP and TG SERP for implementing Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP). TG SERP is covered in all the 442 rural Mandals of 09 rural districts in TG.

The vision of SERP is to enable every poor family in rural Telangana to come out of poverty and stay out of poverty. SERP works on a comprehensive multi dimensional poverty alleviation strategy by focusing equally on the Livelihoods Value Chain and Human Development Indicators. The fundamental unit of development at SERP is the rural poor households and all interventions of SERP strive to achieve essentially two out comes - sustainable per capita household incomes of Rs.1,00,000/- per annum from multiple sources and improved Human Development Indicators.


With this in mind, SERP has relentlessly worked on a unique structure of community based organization by organizing 47,20,342 rural women into 4,14,406 SHGs, 17,978 Village Organizations, 442 Mandal Samakhyas and 09 Zilla Samakhyas. SERP has established a unique institutional structure for the Community Based Organizations in the World.
This CBOs structure in TG. has facilitated cumulative bank loans of Rs. 22,714.32 crores of commercial bank loans to SHG members, Collective Marketing to the tune of Rs. 6218.73 crores resulting in a benefit of Rs.75/- to Rs.100/- per quintal to the farmers, pesticide free cultivation in 10.49 lakh acres in 2013-14 alone resulting in a saving of Rs.3,000/- to Rs.15,000/- per acre to the farmers, etc. This unique model has been adopted by Ajeevika (National Rural Livelihoods Mission) at the National level in India.
Vision and Mission
The disadvantaged communities shall be empowered to overcome all social, economic, cultural and psychological barriers through self-managed organizations. They will attain higher productivity with improved skills and asset base and utilize resources to full potential and gainful access to services.
SERP missions is to enable the disadvantaged communities perceive possibilities for change and bring about desired change by exercising informed choices through collective action.
Some of the key results of SERP, Telangana are:
1,97,144 Persons With Disabilities (PwDs) in 19,654 exclusive SHGs for PWDs.
1,772 acres of fertile land with assured sources of water purchased and handed over to the rural poor.
23,70,219 lakh women enrolled in Abhayahastham and another lakh rural poor household enrolled in JBY through the largest social security programmes in the country.
1,796 Nutrition and Day Care Centrers established
1,307 Early Child Education Centers established with 2171 students.
20,486 cases pertaining to women resolved.
Livelihood Schemes
Community Managed Sustainable Agriculture
Developing new tools and equipment for reducing drudgery to women farmers.
Establishing village level infrastructure for supply of these tools.
Upgrading women farmer's knowledge in eco-friendly farming technologies.
Organizing capacity building programs with new training content and improved methods.
Managing revolving fund for decentralized extension system leading to multiple livelihood options models to be managed communities on their own.

Sustained efforts to make agriculture as economically viable and ecologically sustainable activity, without compromising on yields and improving returns per unit of land and water, to improve the quality of farmer’s life


Mission
To improve the annual incomes of farmers in Rain fed areas in particular and agriculture in general with integrated farming systems.

Knitting Rural Self Enterprises
To produce entrepreneurship and Non-farm livelihoods among the members of SHG households.
To increase the incomes and employment opportunities in the villages.
To engage each household in non-farm activity.
SthreeNidhi
SthreeNidhi credit cooperative Federation Ltd., is promoted by the Government and the MandalSamkahyas to supplement credit flow from banking sector and is a flagship programme of the Government. SthreeNidhi provides timely and affordable credit to the poor SHG members as a part of the overall strategy of SERP for poverty alleviation.

SHGs are comfortable to access hassle free credit from SthreeNidhi as and when required using their mobile and therefore do not see any need to borrow from other sources at usurious rates of interest. SthreeNidhi is in a position to extend credit to the SHGs even in far flung areas of the state in 48 hours to meet credit needs for exigencies like health, education and other income generation needs like agriculture, dairy and other activities. As credit availability is linked to grading of MS and VOs, community is keen to improve functioning of the same to access higher amount of credit limits from SthreeNidhi.
