Warangal: Scores of Congress party workers staged a demonstration at Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) office on Friday demanding revision of proposed reservation of wards by the State government.

The Congress workers, led by former minister B Saraiah, district Congress president N Rajender Reddy and former mayor Errabelli Swarna, squatted in front of the GWMC office and raised slogans against the government.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders accused the TRS government of pressurising the officials to prepare the ward-wise reservations in favour of the ruling party. The statistics of voters in the municipal divisions was ill-defined and wards were reserved to benefit the ruling party.

The party would knock the doors of High Court if the government fails to take up resurvey of population and revise the reservations before the ensuing elections to the Corporation, Saraiah warned. He alleged that the TRS leaders resorting to manipulations to win the elections.

The process adopted in reserving the wards by the State government was anti-democratic, he alleged while appealing to the voters under the Corporation limits to teach a lesson to the TRS party in coming elections.

Former mayor Swarna and Rajender Reddy felt that the reservation of wards was not done in a scientific manner. The opposition parties were not taken into confidence while reserving the wards to SC/ST/BCs and women.
