Takes a complete U-turn from his earlier stand on Seemandhra people; promises to develop the city in all fields if voted to power

Hyderabad: IT and Panchayat Raj Minister on Tuesday said they were going for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections with the slogan of ‘clean, green, smart, happy and global city’ and would have a focussed approach towards all-round growth of Greater Hyderabad.

Interacting with the news persons at a meet the press programme, Rama Rao said he did not agree with the claims of Opposition parties that Hyderabad was developed during their regime. “Yes, there was some development, but it was not focussed.

For example, the entire IT hub got concentrated only in Madhapur, Gachibowli and other areas. None of the earlier government thought of comprehensive development to improve the infrastructure in the city. They thought constructions of flyovers were the end of decongesting traffic. These flyovers are not able to cope up with growing traffic and even if a minor accident takes place, they get jammed,” the Minister said.

He said the TRS government had worked out comprehensive plans for the city including constructing skyways in 11 directions to ease traffic congestion and completed modernising the sewerage network with Rs 14,000 crore.

Rama Rao further said the TRS would strive for the development of the city by eliminating poverty, improving the standards of living and making it one of the finest liveable cities in the world. When asked about wooing Andhra voters for ensuing municipal elections,

Rama Rao said Telangana was not a private State, it was an integral part of Indian Union and any citizen could live here. The government did not discriminate between any person, group or community, he added.

“Even I am a settler in Hyderabad as I came from Siddipet town. No local is unhappy when we are speaking about settlers,” Rama Rao said.
