Nalgonda: Minister for Power G Jagadish Reddy felt that only Telangana State government in the entire country was spending a whopping amount of Rs 33,000 crore on the people’s welfare.

Participating at a programme in which he distributed tricycles and wheelchairs to 600 disabled persons and hearing aids to nearly 500 challenged persons in the town on Wednesday, the Minister said the disabled persons should utilise the schemes and programmes implemented by the State and Central governments and try to become self-sufficient.

Stating that the government would solve the issues of disabled persons in a phased manner, Jagadish Reddy recalled that the TRS government had hiked the disabled pension from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhongir MP Boora Narsaiah Goud pointed out that the number of physically challenged were highest in the district due to the prevalence of fluoride problem. He underlined the need to introduce the quota system to the challenged persons in private sectors also. He asked the educated disabled persons to utilise the study circles and try to get the government jobs by appearing for competitive exams.

District Collector P Satyanarayana Reddy, Joint Collector Dr N Satyanarayana, DRDA Project Director Ringu Anjaiah, MLAs Vemula Veeresham and K Prabhakar Reddy were also present on the occasion.
