Hyderabad: Senior Telangana Congress leader and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Monday wrote to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao urging him to rechristen the Dummugudem Irrigation Project as Indira-Rajiv Sagar project as both late Prime Ministers served the country and sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the nation.

Alleging that large-scale irregularities have taken place in providing compensation to displaced farmers and others, who lost their lands under Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project in Mahbubnagar and the officials of Revenue Department had misappropriated several crores of rupees, Ponguleti urged the Chief Minister to order an inquiry and render justice to the farmers and also protect the State exchequer.

Ponguleti reminded the Chief Minister that the Dummugudem project was taken up under the Jalayagnam programme by the previous Congress government. The Dummugudem project has two Lift Irrigation Schemes viz., Rajiv Dummugudem Lift Irrigation Scheme and Indirasagar Rudrammakota Dummugudem Lift Irrigation Scheme and the entire project was planned to provide water to around four lakh acress in Khammam district.

“Further on your decision for re-designing and approving integration of Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar Projects in Khammam district, water for both of them should be sourced from Dummugudem Project and supplied to five lakh acres by storage in Rodlapadu and Bayyaram Reservoirs. I also request you to call an all-party meeting or Legislators of Khammam district in this regard”, he added.
