Khammam: With the notification for Khammam Municipal Corporation elections issued on Monday, the political heat resulted in a war between the ruling TRS and Congress in 24th division late in Sunday night. According to sources, scuffle took place out between the activists of Congress and the TRS during the opening of a party office in 24th division.

Based on a complaint from the TRS leaders, the police had arrested Congress candidate Mikkilineni Narendra of 24th division and registered a FIR for provoking the TRS leaders. Reacting over this incident, Congress MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar staged a dharna in front of the police station.

He alleged that the police officials with the support of the TRS leaders lodged false case against M Ravinder of Congress of 24thdivision. Ajay Kumar criticised that the ruling TRS was using its political power and trying to suppress the opposition candidate by lodging false cases as it was afraid of losing the seat in 24th division.

‘We will not tolerate if the ruling party continues to threaten the opposition leaders and will teach a fitting lesson to them by winning the Corporation elections,’ he warned. DSP Suresh made tight security arrangements near the police station to prevent any untoward incidents in view of large number of Congress activists turning up at the venue.
